I’m a big fan of hybrids and Toyotas, so a Prius is one of my dream cars. I checked out the video, it’s pretty convincing. I think the new Toyota Prius is something to look for. I can’t wait for the 2010 version though.

his voice is cool i would love to talk htat way

  3.  jkrych says: |

around 2000 at 80% discharge, 1200 or so at deep cycle.

  4.  abdullahyo says: |

    yeah my bad.
    and how many charge-discharge cycles?

  5.  jkrych says: |

you meant watt-hours,my math was off, its closer to 90 Wh/kg, as in Lithium Technology Corporations 7Kw prius conversion

  6.  abdullahyo says: |

    That is huge!
the energy density of advanced lead acid battery is about 45Wh/Kg and that for a lithium ion (in laptops) is about 120Wh/Kg.
Are you sure its 3600? How many discharge cycles?

  7.  jkrych says: |

100 gram battery, at most common 3.7v cell, 25 times capacity max discharge, roughly 3600w/KG

  8.  abdullahyo says: |

    mah=?
    give me Watts/Kg plz.

  9.  jkrych says: |

    170 mah/g….

  10.  abdullahyo says: |

    yup, thats right.
but what is the ‘energy storage to weight ratio’ for iron phosphate batteries?

  11.  evelioruano says: |

… only one thing you skipped: admitting that you said: “people are scared to change” and that is a stupid way to understand the problem
the dolt thing.. if you’re flattered.. i’m not going to judge your sexual orientation.. if you like it.. do it

  12.  jkrych says: |

i wasnt talking about wind or solar power, i never said anything to the contrary of prices or available technology…..everyone thinks the switch to elec would be long and hard and im saying not so much……. ive never been called a dolt before, um, thank you?

  13.  evelioruano says: |

you and only you idiotic dolt
it’s clear that you don’t understand how things work. we don’t use solar energy because is extremely expensive and limited. we don’t use eolic energy because wind is not everywhere and everytime. we don’t use ethanol because is more expensive than extracting petroleum. it’s a matter of prices and available known technology.
ohh no!! i feel scared of renewable free sources of energy. that’s because i don’t save hundreds of $ on fuel. that’s the most stupid argument

  14.  jkrych says: |

this is all true, however, iron phosphate batteries can accept 80% charge in five minutes, first problem solved. second, how much money are we spending in iraq? lets do something good with that instead of buying bombs.

  15.  abdullahyo says: |

ofcourse it can be changed, but it would take a long time.
When you go on the motorway and need refueling, you can stop by at a gas station, but you wont be able to do that if you have an electric car because a) electric cars need a long time to charge and b) there is no infrastructure in place, furthermore the electic car and fuel infrastructure will have to be better than the ic cars to replace them as it would take billions of dollars to develop a new infrastructure.

  16.  jkrych says: |

well, actually we use fuel because we have for the last 100 years or so? and people are scared to change. plus you cant make a bajillion dollars on renewable energy, so that pretty much takes it out of functioning in america…..and im sure the ic engine was limited and expensive when it first came out. who is the bastard now?

  17.  evelioruano says: |

you and only you fucking bastard
why you think people is building eolic, solar and other sources of power.. because the renewable sources are very limited and expensive, why do you think we use fuel instead of ethanol

  18.  jkrych says: |

all that can be changed, get out of the rut.

  19.  jkrych says: |

electricity can be generated with other things besides oil. who is the moron?

  20.  evelioruano says: |

moron: electricity is generated with oil (bunker), charcoal, gas, etc.

  21.  JGMagoo says: |

The falacy in this theoretical car is the fact that no battery yet developed today can accept a charge as fast as the braking energy produced. Compressed air might be a better means of quick energy storage. However this adds even additional complication, cost, and weight.

  22.  abdullahyo says: |

I think we can but it may or may not be economical……..this renewable will have to be more economical and reliable then the existing range of fuels. Furthermore there are recycling issues with regards to batteries and their storage capacity goes down with time and is influenced by changes in temperature.

  23.  jkrych says: |

yes but the thing about electricity is the planet cant be held by the throat with it… – its renewable-

  24.  jkrych says: |

right, but we dont “store it” do we? no, we burn it at 20% energy effciency along with our pocketbooks. do you think we could come up with a renewable energy source with 1 trillion dollars?

  25.  abdullahyo says: |

1 gallon of petrol can store as much energy as 1000 pounds of lead acid batteries so gasoline is very efficient for ’storing’ energy.
